Andy Corry, BA, PGCE
I’ve always had an interest in technology since I was at secondary school, when we used BBC computers and it was the era of the ZX Spectrum. No such thing as the Internet then!
However, after leaving school, my career moved in a different direction and I joined the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary as a Police Officer. A number of years later I decided to change my career path, to fit in with family life. Having successfully secured a position at a multi-national company I later qualified as a Financial Adviser in the Financial Services industry.
In 2005, I had the opportunity to complete teacher training, in a subject I had always been interested in – IT. After qualifying, I spent 6 years teaching up to Advanced level courses, in the state sector. It was at this time I saw the IT vacancy for Sands. I considered the position a real opportunity to spend quality time teaching students in an environment favourable to the learner.
Although I enjoy IT I am definitely an “outside” person and like to indulge in sports and activities in the open air! Activities include; cycling, snorkelling, surfing and being out and about with my family – with 2 young boys. Not forgetting my other hobby; enjoying the Cornwall scenery a few thousand feet above the ground – I qualified as a pilot of light aircraft in 2010 and have enjoyed many hours in the sky!
