Music

With Georgia

A love of music is fostered at Sands through very practical lessons in the form of band practice.  Over the course of a term students work together as a team supported by Georgia to learn new songs of their choice.  Often picking up an instrument for the first time or challenging themselves to a more complex part on one they’ve been learning for a while.  The transferrable skills acquired through these sessions set students up for life.  Students develop their confidence, self-expression and learn to work together with others.

Over the course of the Y years, students develop their musicianship, having tried various instruments and styles and learnt a fair amount of music theory along the way.  Those with a passion for the subject take up the RSL qualification in the O years, which is a more practical qualification focusing on the skills needed to pursue a career in the music industry rather than the more theory focused GCSE.

Creativity is valued and celebrated in all it’s varieties at Sands and each term we celebrate everyone’s hard work with an end of term concert.  Its always a highlight of the school year to see the pride our students feel in over coming their nerves by taking to the stage and in seeing how their skill and expression develops over their time at the school.
