Swimming on Mondays
As the weather warms up we’re so lucky to be able to offer students the chance to swim on Mondays at the lovely outdoor Ashburton Pool, conveniently located right next door to Sands. What a perfect way to cool off.

We’re delighted to be able to announce that this year’s alternative education festival, The Freedom to Learn Forum, will be held at Sands School. The forum will be between the 31st August and 3rd September 2023. More information available here. Keep watch for more news as we get closer to the date.
We really enjoyed having Emma a student from Aberystwyth University with us last week. She spent three days in the school and interviewed students for her dissertation ‘Students Voices in a Democratic Educational Setting: How Do Students Feel and How Do They Think This Impacts Their Learning?’ Unsurprisingly she found Sands students to be very insightful and self-aware of their relationship to their learning.
Congratulations to all the students that took part in this year’s Christmas Concert. The music was amazing and the crowd so warm and supportive. Big thanks to Georgia for all the work that goes into supporting our young musicians develop their talents and for organising the day. Thanks to the New Lion Brewery Taproom for having us!
This year Sands School is taking it’s passion for the climate to new levels. Our School Meeting today voted to declare ourselves a climate emergency school, putting the climate crisis at the forefront of our aims and creating a new climate action group with the powers to use budget to undertake new projects to tackle climate change.
